Here's a file that I put together on attacking zone defenses. I apologize for the scratchy handwriting! My writing is not great.

Player Rating Excel Sheet
Good day coaches! Today I'm posting an Excel spreadsheet with three different statistical rating systems. This can be used on a game to game basis, or at the end of the season you can input your stats to see who your most efficient players are.
The first Rating System is from Danny Miles at Oregon Tech. He's a legend up here in the Northwest.
The second Rating System is a close approximation of the NBA efficiency model. It's not exact, but it's close.
The third Rating System is the rating system I've used with my teams. It has weights in different spots, due to what I emphasize.
feel free to download and share.

Over 200 pages of PDF Notes and Book-type stuff
Over to the right you can see I have my Attack System and 4 Out playbooks for sale. Right now I am offering PDF files of all 200+ pages of my basketball coaching stuff for $20. The Attack System is the high scoring system that I utilized to take my team one game from the state tournament. The 4 Out playbook is 10 continuous offenses and 50+ sets that I've picked up, come up with, and adapted from my years as a coach. If you click the link below you can get 200 pages of stuff for $20. I will email you the PDF files once I receive your email confirming payment.
Thanks for looking.

Monday New Stuff
Here's my Monday post for this week. Its a man to man action that uses a post split and double screens to create shots for a number of different players.
In the first frame, you have your X cut off the high post. 2nd frame the post pops out and the weak side wing slides to the weak block. Third frame the weakside guard and wing set a double screen for the strong guard. 4th frame the same two screeners screen for the strong wing. Finally in the 5th frame, there's a staggered screen for a 3.

VCU strength and conditioning
It's another Monday, which means it's time to post some stuff on the Coach Ferrier blog. First up, is a short YouTube video that focuses on the VCU Rams' Strength and Conditioning program. It doesn't give a lot of detail, but it can definitely give a creative coach some ideas for preseason conditioning

Cutthroat Defense Drill
another fantastic video showing a great defensive drill for developing a defensive mindset. Comes from the FIBA World video collection
Involvement
How do you get kids involved in your program? Right now I am teaching at a public school in Washington (Skykomish School) that has a K-12 enrollment of 36. We have 8 high school students, 7 female, 1 male. I want to try and start the girls' basketball program, but I am not sure how to best convince these ladies to buy into what a girls' basketball team can bring them. We are losing 1 senior girl, gaining 1 8th grade girl, and 2 seventh grade girls are moving up to 8th grade, which means we can put them on the team as well.
All 7 of our girls played on the volleyball team last fall, and did quite well, advancing to the district tournament for the first time in many years. A couple of the girls have (freely) admitted that basketball is "too much running" for them.
THAT KILLS ME.
I'm trying to create a culture up here that embraces opportunity for involvement and activities that can be enjoyable.
How do you convince potential athletes to come out?

Getting the shots you want vs. zones
How often does your team face zone defenses? It seems to be the current trend in high level basketball that teams are relying more and more on zone defenses to change the pace and tempo of games.
Attached here are some ideas on attacking zones. There are some "actions" you can run vs a 2-3, 1-2-2, or 1-3-1 zone to get shots.

Been away awhile
I've been away from my blog for a long time. I have been lucky enough to have been teaching and athletic directing at a small school in Washington state. I haven't had a lot of time to post my thoughts and share things that I have put together. I'm going to try and put more useful things for basketball coaches on my blog.
But for now, I wanted to share a couple of fantastic resources:
First is the Men's Basketball Hoop Scoop. It's a blog with hundreds (maybe thousands) of downloads of coaching information. Coach Peterman does a fantastic job of obtaining information and distributing it.
This Link HERE
Another is Coach Preheim's Blog. I have "stolen" a few things from this amazing collection of information as well.
This Link
Finally, Coach Wayne Walters invented the SWARM defense. It's an innovative way of playing defense. I have purchased materials from Coach Walters, and it is Top-Notch. He also has free materials in the "purchase materials" section!
Check out SWARM Enterprises!
